TODAY! We have an eggcellent activity to keep everyone busy!
Join us between 10am - 5pm for our Easter Bird Egg trail, suitable for all ages. Follow the trail, search for the nests, and use the egg colours and nest clues to work out which bird each nest belongs to. From reedbed specialists like the Sedge Warbler and Water Rail to garden favourites such as the Robin and Blackbird, the trail offers a gentle way to explore the reserve’s habitats and learn about the birds that call Withymead home. Children can record the nest numbers they find, spot real birds along the way, and take part in a simple wildlife survey on the back of their trail sheet. The activity is self guided, and designed to encourage slow, curious exploration of the reserve.

TOMORROW! We have an eggcellent thing to do on Easter Sunday! Around the reserve, we’ve hidden big painted wooden eggs, grouped into nests. Each nest has a number. Your job is to find the nests, look with your eyes at the egg colour and the nest clues, and work out which bird the eggs belong to. When you’ve solved it, write the nest’s number next to the correct bird in your table. Explore carefully and see how many bird nests you can identify as you go. Made possible through the generous support from a @mendthegap2024 grant, we've installed insulated colony bat boxes to help protect Noctule bats, whose homes are threatened by ash dieback. Three large Schwegler bat boxes now provide safe roosts in sycamore trees, supporting not just Noctules but also Daubenton’s and Brown Long Eared bats. Thanks to our dedicated volunteers, these boxes will offer a secure refuge for years to come. Keep an eye out for Noctules foraging high above on summer evenings 🦇🦇🦇
