Events | 3 August 10am – 5pm Citizen Science Sunday

Join us for our Citizen Science Sunday!

It’s the last of the year and it’s a cracker. We’re delighted that ecologist Dr Marc Botham from the Centre for Ecology & Hydrology, Wallingford will be sharing his expert knowledge on the wonderful, beautiful, world of moths. Small and mighty or in disguise, moths are an important indicator species, as their distribution and numbers help to tell us about the health of our environment.

Marc will be setting up his moth trap overnight on Saturday, so come down from 10am – 12noon on Sunday to see what moths we have caught.

The reserve is open until 5pm, so bring refreshments, something to eat, and enjoy!

Make the most of your visit by bringing a picnic and refreshments. We have wonderful places to sit, as well as our waterfront deck, tree log seating, and hides for quiet watching and waiting for wildlife to appear.

Entry to the reserve is free – but donations are welcome.

We love dogs, however to protect wildlife and habitats, dogs (other than assistance dogs) are not allowed on the reserve. They are welcome at the study centre side if kept under control and on a lead.

Two men look at a specimen in a very small container being held by one of them in his fingertips.
A Poplar Hawk Moth has its scalloped wings semi-outstretched and rests on the bark of a tree.
The branches of a willow tree are just coming into leaf, with the branch tips grazing the water of the river Thames. There is a slight ripple in the water, from passing boats. A languid, spring day.
